Chapter 8
Ina
He mulled it over, his jaw working, his brow drawn in a frown. My grumpy orc was truly in a bad mood, and a part of me wanted to see how far I could take it before he truly lost his temper, but I was afraid of messing up my progress.
Whatever his deal was, I was going to blast through it and have the marriage I wanted. Because after he had blown my mind last night, I knew Iâd never let him go.
Now I just needed to get him to do that again despite his obstinacy. That was the goal.
âAnd you wonât sing until noon? Every day?â he asked finally, eyeing me with annoyance.
âNot a peep,â I promised.
âAll right.â
He stood up, an angry tick in his tense jaw. I grinned and stood up as well, my heart hammering wildly.
âIt should be a proper kiss, mind you,â I warned him, doing my best not to sound breathless. âIf you half-ass the kiss, Iâll half-ass my silence vows.â
Lundark grunted and came closer, looking somewhere over my shoulder. When we stood opposite each other, so close the heat of his body caressed my bare collarbones, Lundark grunted again and picked me up without a warning.
I gasped, and he sat me on the kitchen counter, burying his hand in my hair and pulling it to tilt my head back.
âOne proper kiss,â he said, his voice dropping low, his dark eyes focused on my face.
I stopped breathing, mesmerized, and only stared at him, my lips parted.
He leaned over me slowly, and I got dizzy from holding my breath. Lundarkâs dark green face filled my vision, and I finally dragged in a shaky breath, inhaling the warm air he breathed out.
Too nervous, too aware of my beating pulse, his touch, his breath, and his looming presence, I licked my lips and kept my eyes open, even though his face was too close now, obscuring the world, his lips hovering over mine.
Time slowed down, and the lack of touch, the promise of what could be if he dropped his mouth just a little bit lower, was torture. A drum beat in my chest, so loud, so suffocating.
I couldnât stand it. With a small, pleading sound, I brought my face higher and our lips met.
Lundark kissed me slowly, his enormous hand cupping my head, his lips warm and firm against mine. He led, and I responded, my entire body coming alive with his touch, the caress of our mouths exquisite, dreamy, deliciousâ¦
He tasted like some kind of herb, spicy and warm, and as he slowly pressed his tongue into my mouth, I made a muffled sound of pleasure, tasting more of him. He replied in a deep growl, and I realized my legs were now parted wide, and I was sitting on the very edge of the counter, with him between my legs, his groin pressing into me.
Despite his obvious desire, despite my low, pleading moans, he didnât speed up or carry me away to the bedroom.
